Skunks
Skunks have been known to call in the fire brigade due their smell!
Active mostly at dawn and dusk, its important to know how to avoid skunk interaction as they have poor eyesight and will spray in defence or to mark their territory.
As animals inclined to burrow and den at ground level; spaces under decks, sheds, stairs, and window wells serve as ideal habitats for skunks.
These areas become very important during baby season, when mothers birth a litter and remain with their young until mobile (apx. 8 weeks). This is typically when the majority of conflict occurs as the skunks will protect their territories and denning sites against people, pets and other wildlife. You don't want to get sprayed and so taking action immediately once you notice activity on your property is important.
Our team are specialists in identifying active dens sites and the potential presence of babies. Too often we are called to sites where areas have been closed up by others and wildlife have been left to die inside. There is never a reason when this situation would be acceptable and so our team go to great lengths such as varying one way door sizes or wildlife cameras to ensure all individuals exit a site prior to skunk-proofing and permanent exclusion.
As digging animals, the only way to keep skunks out of a structure is to excavate the perimeter, install galvanized steel mesh and install one way doors to allow for exiting.
Supported by multi-year warranties, our comprehensive approach not only addresses skunk-related issues but also offers effective protection against various other wildlife species prone to burrowing for shelter.
Tomato juice does not get rid of the smell of skunk on people or pets! Instead be proactive and skunk-proof your home/building. In the event that you do have the unpleasant experience: hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap can help to neutralize the odour.
