Beavers
Recognized as a keystone species, beavers create and manage fresh water ecosystems supporting a variety of animals and plants. They are also considered to be environmental engineers due to their ability to significantly alter and enhance landscapes and as a result often come into conflict with people.
Flooding water levels, damaged infrastructure, felled vegetation or blocked watercourses can wreck havoc on a property, but it doesn't have to.
Silver Creek Wildlife has a dedicated beaver division led by internationally recognized beaver experts.
Identifying the conflict, the variables associated with your site and understanding the associated environment is imperative for holistic management and meaningful long term solutions.
The team will evaluate non-lethal options including flow control devices, exclusion fences and tree wrapping as the first point of approach.
Should there be circumstances that warrant beaver removal such as when critical infrastructure starts to flood due to related beaver damming/activity, we use humane beaver removal which are designed to reduce animal suffering and avoid public scrutiny.
Once the conflict individuals are removed, the beaver dams causing the flooding can be legally removed. This is a requirement of the ministry prior to any beaver dam removal.
Did you know Beavers are highly territorial, and managing an existing colony can mean less beavers moving into the area over the long term.
