Bears

Managing resources is the greatest defence against human-bear conflict. Whether it's unsecured garbage (bears have been known to LOVE diapers!), unharvested fruit trees or gardens, accessible chicken coops, greasy BBQs, or left out pet food; bears will quickly seek out and take advantage of an easy meal.

This ability to habituate to urban environments and knowledge of human-resource reliance can be passed down to their cubs.

What we end up with are generations of bears with learnt behaviour and a source of conflict.

We have heard the saying "a fed bear is a dead bear" but it doesn't have to be this way.

Whether you are within the private sector or governmental agency, our large carnivore team are apt at identifying the root cause and providing targeted strategies custom to the situation to solve the conflict.

From managing resources, education and training to direct hazing and exclusion fencing; our approach incorporates bear ecology and behaviour to ensure holistic meaningful humane solutions.

Our involvement in supporting organizations and municipalities to achieve and maintain their Bear Smart status and Bear Aware programs has been instrumental in province-wide progress.

Hyperphagia is the term describing the feeding frenzy bears go through during the period leading up to hibernation. In order to survive long cold months over winter, thousands of calories need to be consumed to fatten up. This period of excessive eating and drinking can often lead to an increase in human-bear conflict if human-related food resources are easily available.

Find out from our team how your bear conflict can be successfully managed - we are waiting to hear from you.
