Geese
As protected species, Canadian Geese cannot be harmed nor their eggs or active nest disturbed.
Due to human encroachment, Canadian Geese have habituated to finding alternative nesting sites in urban environments. With a preference for open areas ensuring an unobstructed view of potential land and sky predators, roof tops and grassy areas are often sources of conflict.
Habitat modification such as changing up the levels of landscaping or installing deterrence are great ways reduce the attractiveness of the potential nest sites.
Should you find yourself with a Canadian Geese nest on your property and very protective parents, be aware that nest removal can only take place with a permit issued by the Environment and Climate Change Canada-Canadian Wildlife Service and only granted under very specific conditions within breeding season.
Prevention is therefore better than the birds. Our wildlife crew are trained to offer a full suite of management options ranging from hazing programs for immediate control, to long term egg addling and population control programs.
Canada Geese mate for life and will return to the same location to nest year after year.
