Siding installed along the exterior of buildings serve both an aesthetically pleasing purpose as well as acting as a protective layer against the elements - but not if you are a mouse. Siding gaps, although often overlooked, are perfect spots for mice to either work at entering by chewing larger or easily slipping into existing cracks and crevices to explore the voids in walls or push further into living spaces in search of food.
In addition to improper fitting, shifting foundations, or general wear and tear creating gaps; the plastic rainscreen installed along building perimeters designed to protect against moisture, offer little to no barrier against rodents who will simply chew their way through.
Active points of entry will continue to encourage a never ending flow of mice into a structure as mice lay down pheromone trails - a form of communication indicating to one and all of the perfect access and potential new habitat.
The fix is simple.
Rodent-proof the foundation/siding seam to permanently stop the flow of mice and run a targeted humane poison-free trapping program on the inside of the home to remove any mice locked inside after mice-proofing.
Don't wait until mice have entered - by the time you notice them they would have been in a while.
