Dive bombing crows go hand in hand with breeding season in early Spring. This is the time of year when crows actively build their nests and lay their eggs in preparation of raising the next generation. Although highly unpleasant for people walking past the nest site oblivious to the tremendous occasion of chick raising, crows will respond with intimidating behaviour when they feel their nest site or precious cargo is threatened in an effort to ward off enemies and keep their brood safe.
Simply put: they are being over protective parents
The good news is that this behaviour is temporary and lasts as long as there is an active nest with chicks in the area. In the meantime, avoid known pathways where dive bombing is a regular occurrence, wear a hat or carry an umbrella to protect your head and body from surprise attacks.
If there is an active nest on your building, reach out to our bird team - we can support to keep both you and the crow family safe.
